My Daze of Brain Injury: The Dance of Destiny

My Daze of Brain Injury: The Dance of Destiny

By Robin J. Bloom, MEd

A survivor of trauma wrote My Daze of Brain Injury: The Dance of Destiny: a series of traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) and spinal fusions. I am that survivor. Based on my personal struggles and hardships, I was deeply compelled to put a face and voice to the silent epidemic of TBIs in the desire of lessening the burdens on others who are fighting to cope—with both visible and invisible injuries.

The intent of my story is to present a living role model for change in healing and improving the quality of life through the wisdom of a spiritual partnership. If we accept the premise that compassionate love and understanding conquer all imperfections,  our lives will be much fuller and richer.

Throughout My Daze of Brain Injury, I describe the “dance of destiny”: how I learned to accept the pain of the injuries and how I lost the life I once knew. My brain and body were injured, but my heart and spirit remained untouched, healthy,  and alive. I chose self-empowerment. Spiritual sustenance was essential in maintaining peace of mind. The writing—a chronicle of my transition—was actually more therapeutic than I anticipated. Many hours of rewrites were required due to cognitive difficulties with my TBI. Order was subsequently restored when I obtained data from my medical records.

A percentage of the proceeds (from the book) will be donated to the Wounded Warrior Project (http://www.woundedwarriorproject.org), to assist women and men who are recovering from TBI and other severe injuries. I ask for your prayers of peace and loving support in helping these survivors overcome impairments to the brain and body–allowing them to become productive members of society, able to lead fulfilling lives.

This book I could not put down once I began reading. What an inspirational story to share. We’ve all heard that life can be hard. For some, more than others, I quickly learned. I realized after reading “My Daze of Brain Injury”, that we all have a story. The author’s courage and perception of her changed life inspired me to make changes in my own life and to be grateful for what I have. I can’t believe how she managed to crawl underneath an electric fence to help with her badly injured body. Truly an amazing story and very heartfelt. It was a pleasure to read her story.
