Who should use the PACK?

• People who do not own a computer, and who have access to computers in public environments such as libraries, disability centers, or coffee houses.
• People who want to use a home computer, but cognitive, visual, or language challenges are barriers to using the Windows desktop.
• People who have access to a computer, but find it is not used because of the complexity of setting it up and maintaining it.
• People who have been unsuccessful using computers because they are too hard to learn and there are too many things to remember.

How can the PACK help me?

• With PACK any Windows computer is accessible.
• PACK eliminates difficult to read text and small icons from your computer's desktop.
• You are able to email friends, browse the Internet, or play fun games on any Windows computer.
• PACK has built-in training programs that help you learn to use a mouse, keyboard, and Coglink email.

What help or training  do I need to use the PACK?

The PACK typically requires very little help or training to use. We will give each care provider a helper link that makes it easy to personalize the PACK and to change features as needed. Once the PACK arrives in the mail, a care provider should follow the simple quick-start instructions to install a PACK icon used to launch the accessible desktop. Other instruction needs depend upon the user. People with more severe cognitive challenges will benefit from a few sessions of systematic instruction to master steps for choosing a PACK application, such as the CogLink email program, reading email, and sending an email message. PACK users with language challenges will benefit from features such as word prediction and personalized templates that are easy for a care provider to create. Templates and other features are intuitive and require minimal training.

Can more than one person use the same PACK drive?

No, each drive is customized for each user.

What kind of customization is done for my PACK?

The designated helper(s) can add email partners, email partner photos, change font size, create email reminders, create email templates, toggle email features like speech to text, and add website links to the user's homepage.

What type of computer do I need to use - a PC or a MAC?

Any Windows computer with XP or newer and any Mac with OS 10.5 or newer.

How do I get started?

Simply insert your PACK drive into your computer's USB port. See the Quick Start guide that comes with the PACK drive for more information.

What does the Training do?

Training shows you how to use the computer mouse, keyboard and CogLink Email program.

What happens if my PACK drive gets damaged?

You can ship the drive back to us, and we will attempt to repair or replace the drive for a reduced cost.

What happens if I lose my PACK drive?

We can lock out features of the lost drive to protect your identity. And we can offer a replacement PACK drive for a reduced cost.
