After brain injury

  Families and individuals often find that relationships with friends, coworkers and relatives change after a brain injury.  Just when support is most needed, it can be difficult to find when others do not understand what it means to have a brain injury.  This tip card describes various types of support from the natural supports often taken for granted to support from peers and friends.  It also discusses when more formal support from professionals is needed. 

 

  This tip card is filled with suggestions and practical strategies to help families and individuals build their support systems to reduce isolation and strengthen relationships.  A section for professionals includes tips on working with families and survivors.
