Traumatic Brain Injury in Native America

A Healing Journey

Bruce Kafer and Eugene Strangehorse are Native Americans living in northeast Ohio.  They tell the personal story of Eugene’s healing journey after his traumatic brain injury.   Using their storytelling oral tradition, this DVD helps viewers understand the key cultural nuances of Native Americans and how they affect the perceptions, reactions and changes that come with surviving a traumatic brain injury.  It gives viewers an appreciation for the culture, heritage and prevailing challenges among Native Americans as they face the long road that is the journey of brain injury.

This DVD was produced by the Traumatic Brain Injury Collaborative in Akron Ohio and and the Rehabilitation Services Commission of Ohio with funding from the Department of US Health and Human Services Health Resources and Service Administration.
