Using skits, informative material, and self-tests this interactive CD shows parents of students with brain injury how to become effective communicators and advocates for their child when meeting with educators and negotiating for services with school systems.
An engaging self-paced format demonstrates what parents need to know about the special needs of students with brain injury in the classroom.
The 5-lesson tutorial on advocacy skills includes realistic video examples of communication skills on brain injury. It shows how to apply easy-to-use, practical tools to help organize records, prepare for meetings, set goals, and keep track of progress. Development of Individualized Educational Plans is explained as well as resources and information on (IEP)/504 plans, transition plans, and legal support.
Recognizing that school is just part of a child’s life, this CD also shows parents how to develop strategies to prevent burnout and to better cope with feelings of guilt and grief about a child’s brain injury.
Many families contributed to the development of the CD by sharing their experiences, reactions, frustrations and progress. Their voices are evident in the clear and practical discussions and strategies presented to help families understand and address the unique challenges after a child’s brain injury.
